Words by James Bainbridge
Our travel team has seen a flurry of activity, as members get in touch to plan spring and summer getaways. And while you may not be a member yet, we wanted to share a few recent highlights to show what’s possible with our support.
From yacht itineraries and alpine arrivals to immersive cultural experiences, our team is here to help you follow your dreams – wherever they may take you.
Whatever your requirements in the worlds of travel, dining, and entertainment, get in touch with our Membership Director to discuss a membership that is shaped entirely around you.
DINING
Exclusive tables
It was all samba, steaks, and free-flowing Caipirinhas at our exclusive 50% off soft launch at Mayfair’s new Brazilian hotspot, Maroto. It was the latest in a packed calendar of member-only evenings – after that, chef Tom Booton welcomed members to The Grill at The Dorchester. The youngest head chef in the restaurant’s 93-year history, the 32-year-old, Essex-born wunderkind shared plenty of stories, drawing on his experience working in kitchens since the age of 15. Both events proved incredibly popular, with tickets selling out fast.
Culinary adventure
It’s not all Michelin-starred restaurants for our dining team – a member’s trip to Jordan took us off the beaten track, as we recommended and booked the finest restaurants in Aqaba and the Petra region. We relish the challenge of looking beyond the usual hotspots to find dining and hotel options in less travelled or rural areas.
Working our magic
When a member came to us unable to book the private dining room of a Michelin-starred West London restaurant for an important family celebration, we had a direct line to the maître d’, who secured the booking – more than two months before reservations officially opened.
ENTERTAINMENT
Family theatre
Our entertainment experts curated a theatrical fortnight for a family visit to London, catering to every generation with a schedule of the finest seats for West End blockbusters and fringe gems.
Beautiful game
We scored a hat trick when we arranged a travel package, premium tickets to the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, and celebratory dinners after Newcastle’s historic win against Liverpool.
Bond’s favourite car
A small group of members recently enjoyed a complimentary private tour of the Aston Martin factory, including the chance to get behind the wheel of the new Vantage, DBX707, and DB12. We regularly arrange behind-the-scenes events that aren’t available to the general public – ask us what’s in store for the festive season and beyond.
Season of romance
Love is apparently in the spring air, as members have had us planning memorable proposals – drawing on our travel, dining, retail, and logistical expertise. We arranged flowers, candles, and a heart-shaped arch in Turks and Caicos, and a picnic proposal accompanied by a live band in a Tuscan vineyard, followed by a coastal road trip.
Ripping yarns
When we launched The Book Club in the depths of lockdown, we had no idea it’d still be going strong more than three years later. So far this year, members joined bestselling author Robert Harris to discuss his new historical novel, Precipice, aswell as Tracy Chevalier, author of Girl with a Pearl Earring, discusses her new novel, The Glassmaker.
The grand tour
It’s been a busy time for our members, with one calling on us to arrange the guided tour to end them all – a private tour of Buckingham Palace. They walked through the palace and around the exterior during the Changing of the Guard – part of a royal experience that also included a private viewing of the Crown Jewels and a meet and greet with a Beefeater. No matter how big, small, or obscure your request, our lifestyle managers are here to make it happen.
Tosca, Carmen, et al
Further afield, an opera-loving member continued his customary European trips to watch the entire runs of great opera performances – lasting up to three weeks. On nights when the stars are resting their voices, we book him into a Michelin-starred restaurant. Our 360-degree service allows us to combine flights, hotels, restaurants, activities, and whatever you need for your perfect holiday.
Memories of Africa
For Umr in our Cape Town office, researching a travel itinerary was a journey into the past, when he helped a South African-born member show his British family around his childhood haunts. They planned almost daily while building the itinerary, with Umr jogging the member’s memory, including locating and booking a restaurant he’d visited 30 years ago.
TRAVEL
Alpine transfer
A ski-bound member was cooler than the surrounding mountains when we booked a helicopter to whisk them from Geneva to the slopes of Val d’Isère.
Northern Light highlights
Members’ travel requests last winter are split between the Indian Ocean and snowy Scandinavian adventures. One member wants to see the Northern Lights on his 40th birthday, while an intrepid group of four families is heading to Lapland for a classic experience of husky mushing, snowmobiles, and reindeer.
Island escapes
Our dedicated travel team is elevating our members’ spring adventures with complimentary room upgrades and bespoke itineraries, including Croatian yacht-hopping and a Grecian getaway.
Special treatment
Our travel team recently persuaded the Four Seasons Hotel London at Park Lane spa to bend its rules and allow a couple to bring their six-month-old baby while they enjoyed a facial together. Get in touch to experience our personal service and benefit from our close partnerships, as other members do every day.
Smoothing the bumps
Of course, travel is not without bumps in the road, which is why we ask members to save our contact details for 24/7, on-the-ground support from our multilingual worldwide teams. When a member forgot to cancel a £20,000 booking with an Irish country house hotel due to health issues, we drew on our partnership to secure a full refund outside of the normal cancellation policy.
RETAIL
Special delivery
Another member used our team’s on-the-ground expertise and language skills to deliver a birthday bottle of bubbly to their daughter in Mallorca at short notice. With only three hours before the birthday girl left her villa for her dinner reservation, we suggested gift ideas, liaised with our partner on the island, and arranged delivery. We even persuaded the driver to pick up a birthday card en route and write in a special message from the member.
Piece of history
Our experts are a go-to for members looking for a memorable gift, including one who wanted an unusual wedding present of Winston Churchill memorabilia for her fiancé. Our retail specialists – accustomed to sourcing rarities such as Hermès handbags – researched the two-time British prime minister’s original love letters, books, and even dressing gowns to find the perfect gift.
